DC FanDome just wrapped up its first day and we had a ton of information to take in. From The Batman trailer to The Suicide Squad movie and video game, we’re giving you a quick summary of the event. Here’s a look at the highlights from DC FanDome Day 1:

Movies

DC has been going all out on their movies and show no signs of stopping. From The Batman to Wonder Woman to Shazam, we’re getting a ton of DC movies embracing the multiverse.

The Emo Batman

After months of speculation, The Batman finally has a trailer. Our first clip shows Commissioner Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) investigating a crime scene made by The Riddler (Paul Dano) involving wrapping people in tape and writing the words “No More Lies” on the faces. Robert Battinson looked better in this trailer than the preview photos we saw in the past few months. What I wasn’t expecting was how much Batman would be acting like an actual detective for once and trying to solve clues to The Riddler’s actions. We haven’t seen this kind of Batman since Michael Keaton in Batman Returns. Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz) also made a short appearance.

Excited for The Batman

PS Plus points for the actual black makeup!

THE SUICIDE SQUAD Sneak Peek

I had the lowest of expectations for James Gunn’s Suicide Squad, but I was glad to be amazed by the work. It looks like the comic came to life. It was nice to see Harley, Captain Boomerang and King Shark appear. We even got obscure heroes like Polka Dot Man of all people! John Cena as Peacemaker looks to be an interesting take on a Charlton Comics character acquired by DC in the 1980s.

It’s going to be wild!

PS: Harley Quinn looks like she got her Injustice costume and it works so well!

Wonder Woman 84

I’ll be honest. The trailer for WW84 was disappointing. You know how movie trailers tend to spoil EVERYTHING in the film? WW84 is another case of showing too much. With Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah being revealed already, there isn’t much to expect anymore. Maybe we’ll get the Invisible Jet or Amazon Healing Ray? All we can do now is wait and hope for the best with this film.

WONDER WOMAN!

PS Pedro Pascal’s Maxwell Lord reminds me of Jeff Bridges’ Kevin Flynn from TRON. This idealistic man who needs a reality check.

Black Adam Concept Art

Due to COVID-19, we haven’t seen much about Black Adam. The FanDome event showcased concept art of Dwayne Johnson as the villainous Black Adam. I’m excited for the concept art, but I’ll hold my

thoughts for when we get actual footage.

We did get a short narration by The Rock with a quick backstory on who Black Adam is and how he was punished for abusing his powers by the wizard Shazam.

PS The whole concept art reveal felt like I was watching an Injustice Character Ending.

Shazam! Sequel Name Revealed

Now that we’re done with Black Adam, we can’t forget about his Arch Enemy, Captain Marv—eh, I mean Shazam! Not much has been mentioned about the sequel, but we did get the title of the movie and it’s called, Shazam! Fury of The Gods.

Shazam! Fury of The Gods is the title of the Captain Marvel sequel.

I love the title. It’s not so long that it’s confusing, but it still leaves a cloud of mystery so we have something to be curious about.

The Snyder Cut

After a long and exhausting campaign, fans finally got their wishes answered with the upcoming #SnyderCut of Justice League coming to HBOMax in 4 one hour episodes. Personally, I like the fact that we will get time to breathe instead of binging everything in one go. Four hours for a movie can be exhausting.

Darkseid is…rendered.

The trailer finally showcases Darkseid, Iris West, more of Cyborg’s backstory. In summary, we’re getting the proper amount of time to have every plot point explained instead of rushing through them in a two hour film.

PS Hallelujah.

The Flash Concept Art

Continuing the #Snydervserse trend, we also got an early look at Ezra Miller’s Flash Movie with Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck both returning as their versions of Batman in the same movie!

Universe collide when Ezra Miller’s Flash meets Michael Keaton’s Batman in the latest concept art.

Production on the film hasn’t started yet due to the coronavirus. We did get some epic concept art featuring Keaton’s Batman and Miller’s Flash together in action. I’m excited for the crossover, but still a little hesitant to have Miller continuing as The Flash due to his recent actions. I’ll have to wait and see how this goes.

Overall, the DC Movies look like they finallly got their footing. I love the fact that they’re embracing the multiverse so we’re not limited to one version of Batman only. We’re getting multiple interpretations of the same characters and that’s what makes comic books in general fun!

Video Games

As for video games, we got two announcements involving the Gotham Knights video game by WB Games Montreal and Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.

Gotham Knights

Activate the Gotham Knights Protocol

Unlike the Arkham games, Gotham Knights gives you the option to choose from 4 different characters in Nightwing, Damian Wayne’s Robin, Barbara Gordon’s Batgirl and Red Hood Jason Todd. The game looks interesting because it reminded me of Mr. Freeze’s plans in the Batman and Robin movie from the 1990s. We just don’t have Batman this time.

PS: Court of Owls

Kill The Justice League

Tara Strong is back as Harley Quinn.

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League has the Suicide Squad on a mission to kill the Justice league because it looks like Superman has gone rogue. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next. Prior to the release of this trailer, I wasn’t the biggest fan of her interpretation of Harley Quinn. The Suicide Squad game trailer gives me confidence that she has a better grasp of the character now that isn’t so screechy like before. She sounds so much better in this game trailer.

PS From Harley Quinn to the Suicide Squad movie and now the video game, I love seeing King Shark get some love in different projects.

Comics

One of the biggest moments from the event was the “Surprise Comics Panel.” Nobody knew what was coming and we were definitely SHOCKED at the announcement. That’s right. Milestone Comics is coming back for real. After years of legal issues, Milestone Comics is finally making a return to DC Comics by February 2021.

Milestone and DC originally announced a return in NYCC 2017, but the announcement vanished into thin air after going through more legal issues involving Milestone co-founder Dwayne McDuffie’s estate.

Anyway, moving on to the good news. DC Comics will be releasing the Milestone catalog before the official February 2021 relaunch along with a digital-first Static Shock comic series.

Other highlights of the panel included filmmaker Reginald Hudlin announcing that there have been serious talks of a Static Shock movie. There really are no words to describe the surprise of this announcement. Dare I say it’s a shock to the system. 😉

We’re also getting the return of other Milestones Heroes such as Icon and Rocket in the Milestone Returns #0 comic coming out on September 12 US time on day 2 of DC FanDome.

Black Batman?

Jim Lee also made an announcement that writer John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) will be making a miniseries possibly featuring a Black Batman and which John Ridley will use to address his relationship with his own two sons. Rumors have been rumbling since the now-cancelled 5G concept that Lucius Fox would become Batman in some form or another. John Ridley’s series could be the start of the said story.

The miniseries feels like it’s giving the same message as Spider-Verse and that anyone can be Batman under the mask. I like it. I’m not so excited for the idea, but it’s interesting. We even got official artwork by Jose Ladronn.

Day 1 Decided

That’s about it for DC FanDome Day 1. It was a lot to take in, but we hope our summary makes it easier to consumer the DC Comics Content of today. We’ll see you back here on September 13 for Day 2! What was your favorite DC Comics announcement of the day?
